Usually a blog website won’t need to much space, it’s mostly text. That’s one of the great things about a blog that helps you keep a reliable webhost without paying a lot of money. You probably know from experience that getting 5GB of bandwidth for $5 per month leads to oversold servers and downtime. Usually with so many clients a company that sells packages like this will also lack customer service qualities.

However, in order to make a blog popular you sometimes need to give away things, like Wordpress Themes and Plugins, and that will require a lot of space and bandwidth. Do you want to compromise reliability and support for a bigger package? Probably not. In this case, I would suggest checking out a hosting company like Gossimer, which offers a lot of space and bandwidth for a minimal price.

Something few people know is that with a little big of effor you can set up your account so that your downloads are on the large account but your site is still on your current host. All you need to do is contact your host and ask them to edit the IP address for a subdomain you set up. If you have a reseller account, you can do this on your own. In the DNS zone when you point the subdomain to another IP (the one Gossimer, gives you), it will point to that server and pull up the files on that server.

There are some great ways to make use of an account like this withouth jeopardizing your sites reliability. I’m not saying they oversell their accounts, but when you do the math it’s hard to believe otherwise. They offer limits on their features, like 1 MySQL database, so you may not wish to use them for a full featured site, but for purposes such as this they could be an extremely valuable, yet cost effective, service.

I’m beginning my trial of TNX, which is supposed to be like Text Link Ads. I actually found the link to this site on the Cash Quests site I mentioned in my last post. Amanda, the previous owner of The Blog World, had mentioned it to me a while ago, but I hadn’t ever looked at it. When I brought it back up to her she told me she’d done a review for Empower Women Now (no link because the site hardly works) and had negative results. She said when she put her site into the system, Pajama Mommy, she was told her PR4 site that makes her $5,000+ per month would stand to make $0 per month from TNX. I decided something had to be wrong here and I was going to try it for myself.

I went to the website and I put in the information. Basically I would be lucky to make $50 per month from this program on The Blog World. But the fact that many of these calculator tools seem to be wrong appealed to me. Why would you put a calculator on your site that basically says people won’t make enough to buy a bottle of water each day on your program? I admit, the site is poorly made, but what do I have to lose giving it a shot?

So I signed up last night. I didn’t get an email from them, but my login works. I set up The Blog World and now it says I have to raise my link limit from 0. I click the link to do this and everything’s in another language. Wonderful.. but I don’t see where to list how many links I want. Do I wait until I’m approved for that? How do I get approved? Will they email me? The world may never know. Right now, all I see is..

Your site is currently being reviewed. If the site disappears from this page in several days, then it may not fit our requirments - may be it is not google indexed, etc.

They say it takes 1-2 days for your site to be reviewed, so I’ll let you know how it goes. I assume TBW will be accepted, since that Cash Quests website, which tells people how to cheat Google, was accepted. If you’re thinking about signing up yourself, use my referral link up there. And let me know how it goes for you, too.

      EDIT 11/12/2007 7:25AM
The message has been removed from under The Blog World and there is now a management and a statistics link. The management link says it is “temoraly blocked”. Not looking good. Is this necessary for me to be able to sell ads at all? How much money am I potentially losing right now?

A friend of mine found a post on page rank and showed me. It looked extremely interesting, so I held on to it for a day or so. When I actually sat down to read it and play with it, the post was just funny.

Cash Quests has written a post (and put it up in its featured section) about a website called LivePR.Info. You can read the post for yourself, here. In this post the writer tells about the website and the cons of the tool. Not con as in negative, but con as in “illegal”. He tells you how to con Google for better page rank, or to sell off your quality page rank. He says twice in his post that he would never do it, but has no issues with telling you exactly what to do. But that’s not what this post is about.

A tool that tells you the page rank of each page on your site could be very helpful. Not for the reasons he spoke about, but for slightly more honest reasons. The actual reason people want page rank. If you have a website with a certain page that you’d like seen, it would be helpful to know its page rank. If you have a site with a lot of quality pages, it can be difficult to look up each one individually. Having them all listed there for you can help you to see how popular each page is and which ones need your attention.

However, the funny part about this, is that I went to LivePR.info and put in my website. My friend Anna who showed it to me did this as well. I even put in PJ Mommy for giggles. Strangely enough, every page on every website I put in came back with a PR of 10. That’s wonderful! We’re all going to be rich on the next update!

The truth of the matter is, no one but Google knows that Google is doing. You can’t predict page rank and, obviously, you can’t accurately display a current page rank. So why do it? I guess people will believe anything, so make a cool tool they’ll want and slap some ads all over the pages. Make sure to put in some Google Adsense so the page scrolls forever, too.

When it comes to my office, I keep it pretty organized. I don’t like surprises when it comes to money, but every time I’m running low on printer paper or ink it always catches me off guard. Not so much the paper, even, but the ink cartridges. The wonderful warning you get when you’re running out of ink is a less than stellar printing job with faded lines. But that always seems to happen right when you need to print something important. I love how that works.

Printer ink is expensive, too. It’s not like paper, where you can go buy a pack for $5. I have an HP All-In-One, so when my ink runs low I have to buy HP ink cartridges. I know there are generic types out there, but I don’t like to take risks with my $400 appliances. A $35 surprise expense is never good, but a $400 one (because you bought crappy ink) is even worse.

My printer takes HP 56 Black, which I found on this site, Carrot Ink, for only $20. That means I can buy 2 (one for next time) for about the same price as what I’d pay Staples for just one. I love finding bargains like this, especially when I don’t have to go to stores and shop around for it.
