I have to say you express some fine points. I must say it is harder in the beginning when you’re newish and your readers arent as interactive as you hope them to be but it does get easier with time.

Nice post, Randa! Makes me wonder if there actually underwater basketweaver bloggers out there.

Another simple way to do every so often is to do a “Who Are You And What Do You Want?” type post. Give readers the chance to comment on what they like about your blog, what they want to see more of, etc.
