I am getting sick of going to tons and tons of sites and seeing everyone gearing their site towards adsense. It’s really hard to learn new things if you’re like me, and banned from adsense. I use Burst. I’m very much enjoying Burst, however it’s mainly for CPM (paying per impression).
There are a few PPC, and they have high payouts, but there aren’t that many. So you’re stuck with like 8 ads rotating and you won’t be able to target better. The only problem with Burst, I’ve found, is people need to fill out a survey. I hope they do more stuff like *dare I say it?* Google in the future.
I am hoping to get accepted in to the Yahoo! Advertising program, hopefully I will be. The sites Alexa and PR rating are good. *even better on pjmommy.com my newest venture* So everyone keep your fingers crossed.
If you noticed there are ads in different places and I’m going to explain why, it wont work with the layout. Explanation over.
However it has taught me a lot of new things.
I love the fact that it doesn’t work with the layout because it allowed me to place ads in places I didn’t think of.
Optimize on the ads that run INSIDE your post, not just on the main page. Reason being, especially if you are trying to build up your RSS feed, some people will only read the RSS post and not check around your site. If you place them in your post (mine has a 460×80 banner plus a RICH BOX) you will get more adexposure.
Right now my site has a sky scraper, 3 banners, and a box. However, on the index page it isn’t overwhelming and the site isn’t loading slowly. Thats the better part. Unfortunately, the more ads you have on your site the longer your site takes to load. Most people will not stay if the site doesn’t load within 10 seconds, believe it or not 10 seconds is a very long time now a days.
Me, I also don’t like over exposed ads on 2 column layouts. The reason is that I hate long websites. I hate having to scroll and scroll.. and scroll. That’s why I do my best to keep 3 column layouts, for better for optimizing ad exposure (I’m going to have PJMOMMY redesigned into a 3 column layout for this reason).
When you have 2 columns you end up with a long site. Although it is a good site, I have to say the set up is rather annoying on ProBlogger.net. The length of the website makes me hesitant, plus a lot of people will only read your top post. I know I have friends like that (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE [Yes, I do]) so its better to keep things short and sweet instead of expanding.
Always get a 2nd opinion! There are some 3 column layouts that are set up nicely, but I have to say are horrendous in design. It’s really hard to take someone serious, at least for me, if their website is horribly designed graphically. So make sure you send out and ask some of your favorite sites, “Hey I would really like your feedback on my site’s strengths and weaknesses”.
All of these will help.
