Google has stated that they will not count paid links in their Page Rank. As impossible as it seems to be able to do this, they are. They’ve set up websites where you can report your competition as well.
It has become extremely common for people to list their paid reviews as ‘Sponsored’ through the categories section. This tells your readers that the article isn’t real and not to worry about reading it. And that’s exactly what they do, they just pass over it. But people don’t buy reviews for them to be passed over by your readers.
So I propose properly labeling your posts, rather than just labeling them ‘Sponsored’ or ‘PPP’. You really shouldn’t be taking on reviews that have nothing to do with your topic or that you can’t relate to personally, so this shouldn’t be any trouble. If you see a tech blog talking about non-tech products with 2-5 links to the same site, you can be pretty sure it’s a paid review. Writing articles that are off topic will lower the credibility of your blog.
If you’ve noticed, paid reviews have been labeled as such on this blog. And all old ones by Amanda will stay where they are. But from now on, paid reviews will be in the general categories and not split as they once were. The paid reviews on this site, which are what keep it alive, will not be easily recognized by others. Why? Not for Page Rank, not for money. Because I am a business owner and I know I want my own ads taken seriously. So I will take care to extend that same courtesy to those willing to sponsor my own articles.
